Overview: In late 1993 one of the upgrades Toyota engineers made to the SW20 suspension were a pair of these weight distribution plates the official description from the technical articles is as follows: "The plate has been added to the rear suspension tower to further increase the rigidity of suspension support."

An added bonus with using the plates is the added height raises the position of the rear strut tower brace and can help give that little bit of extra height to help clear custom intercooler pipe work etc. These plates are sold as a LH and RH pair.

Suitability: The exact changeover date in 1993 is not listed for this component however the shock absorber upper mount changeover date was November 1993 so it's safe to assume this part was designed for all November 1993 onward SW20's.

Many people do use these on earlier model SW20's however the problem with doing so is that the shock absorber upper mount uses shorter threaded studs so if you are using these weight distribution / stiffener plates in conjunction with the standard strut tower brace on an early model SW20 you will find the standard size nut does not screw all the way down so we can not recommend this.

You may be able to buy longer studs for the shock absorber upper mounts (or use the later model shock absorber upper mounts) but we recommend talking with a suspension specialist. On later model SW20's however these distribution plates are designed to be used in conjunction with the standard strut brace.

As with all Toyota parts if you would like to maintain a 12 month warranty on the parts Toyota require genuine parts to be fitted by an Authorised Toyota technician.
